Thomas Heckelei

Professor for Economic and Agricultural Policy

University of Bonn, Germany

Thomas Heckelei specializes in quantitative economic analysis based on econometric and simulation methodologies. Fields of applications generally target the sustainability performance of agri-food systems and comprise European agricultural and trade policies, farm structural change as well as European and African social-ecological systems. He co-coordinated the original development of the CAPRI model and contributed further to its strategic development as well as empirical specification. His group applies the model for ex-ante policy analysis until today. The development of applied econometric methodologies and specifically Bayesian techniques to include prior information has also been a reoccurring methodological theme in his research.  In more recent years, the toolbox was extended to agent-based models and machine learning approaches.
